Eastern Kentucky had been struggling offensively the last couple of weeks. Yesterday they showed some signs of improvement in a 5-2 win. Today the bats exploded in a 11-4 win to finish off the sweep of UNC-Asheville Bulldogs. With the victory EKU improves to 4-6.

Eastern  Kentucky took no time on Sunday to start swinging the bats.  Doug Teegarden would get a 1 out single. Sean Hagan would drive him home with a double of his own. Hagan would then steal third base and be driven home by Luke Wurzelbacher. Bryan Soloman then doubles down the right field line scoring TJ Alas, Luke Wurzelbacher, and Kyle Nowlin. Ben Fisher would finish the scoring in the first inning with a single scoring Bryan Soloman. That would top off a 6 run first inning for the Colonels.

Eastern Kentucky would make it 7-0 in the third when Kenny Hostrander would score on a fielder’s choice.

North Carolina-Asheville would respond back in the 4th inning with a 3 run homer to make it 7-3 after 4 innings.

Kenny Hostrander would continue the Colonels scoring with a 1 out single in the 6th scoring TJ Alas. Doug Teegarden would hit a 2 out single  scoring Bryan Soloman and Kenny Hostrander to make it 10-3.

In the 7th inning Kyle Nowlin hit his first home run on the season to make it 11-3.

The Bulldogs would respond with a Kyle Towles double that would score Joe Tietjen to reach the final score of 11-4.

It’s always a great day when it is hard to pick a offensive player of the game but will give it to Senior Bryan Soloman who went 3-5 with 2 doubles and a single. He also pitched in 3 RBIs.

In his first career start freshman Caleb Johnson  went 4 innings giving up 3 runs, only 2 were earned, on 2 hits, walking one and striking out 5. Senior Myles Scott went another 3 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 1.

Both junior Ben Brooks and sophomore Chris Cervantes would go 1 inning giving up 1 hit each. Cervantes would also strike out 1 batter.

Eastern Kentucky returns to action on Wednesday March 5 when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to battle the (5-6) Buccaneers of East Tennessee State. East Tennessee Stateis coming off being swept by Canisius College at home this weekend. ETSU does have an win over Auburn on the road and also beat UNC-Asheville 11-6.
