EKU has it’s first winning streak of the 2014 season. On Saturday Eastern Kentucky went to 3-6 on the year after beating the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs 5-2.
The scoring started in the second inning for the Colonels after they were able to get the bases loaded with 2 outs. Ben Fisher would then hit a single up the middle scoring Luke Wurzelbacher and Bryan Soloman.
UNC-Asheville would respond in the 6th with a sac fly by Phillip Treadway scoring Hunter Bryant. Then a wild pitch would allow Erik Connolly to tie the game up at 2-2.
Eastern Kentucky would quickly get those 2 runs back when Shea Sullivan hits a 2 RBI single to center field scoring Cole Warrenfeltz and Luke Wurzelbacher.
Luke Wurzelbacher would attempt to steal second in the 8th ining but an error would allow him to score and Kyle Nowlin would be thrown out at the plate making the score 5-2.
Tanner Perkins would pitch 7 innings for the Colonels with 1 Strikeouts and 5 hits and 1 earned run. Shea Sullivan would go 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Game three is tomorrow at 1 pm. Freshman Caleb Johnson will get his first career start tomorrow vs Asheville. UNC-Asheville will have Corey Randall on the mound trying to avoid the sweep.
