The NFL draft is still nearly two months away, but the media covering the NFL never sleeps, meaning it’s mock draft time from here until May 8th. This week, especially, the number of drafts is skyrocketing, which makes now a great time to check in on former Eastern Illinois’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo‘s stock.
It’s still quite high.
Most mock drafts are currently only one round deep, but not Yahoo! Sports, who goes into the second round. And we didn’t need to go that deep to find Garoppolo: they have him pegged as the first pick of the second round, heading to the Houston Texans.
We couldn’t find Garoppolo on any first round boards, but Sports Illustrated mentions Garoppolo as a potential pick for the Cleveland Browns at 26 if they don’t take a quarterback at No. 4, before making a comparison to Brandon Weeden. (Why, SI, WHY?!) They currently have the Browns taking Johnny Manziel at four, and wide-receiver Brandon Cooks late in the first round.
This past week, Garoppolo compared his skill set this week to Aaron Rodgers, before saying his dream team would Rodgers’ rival Bears. He also recently worked out for San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh who says Garoppolo does get out the ball quick, but maybe a bit too quick, as he’d like to see him go through his full motion.
