If you’ve been on the site for any reason over the last four days, you’ve quite possibly seen one of about four different site designs, including the one you’re looking at now. For those that have followed us over the years, you’re probably quite used to this.
As our site has grown, and as my skills related to running a site have increased, I’ve always looked for ways to improve the end user experience. Now, with over 1/2 of our viewers reading our site on either phones or tablets, we needed a site that will work as well for those viewers as those on larger computers.
Over the fast few days, we’ve experimented with a few different styles. On Friday, I was certain I had found one I loved. I implemented it, made the necessary changes…and it didn’t work. At least, not well.
Over the weekend, I spent countless hours trying to make it work: I fixed more than a dozen bugs; changed fonts, colors and layouts. I contacted multiple guys much smarter than me on web design to help.
This morning, I gave up on it. And started again.
What you’re looking at now is what I came up with. It’s similar to the old site, but a bit cleaner, and with larger fonts on stories for phones. There will be a few more minor changes over the next few days, but the bulk of the site is done. I appreciate your patience.
If you have any questions or comments, or notice any bugs, feel free to let me know and I’ll do my best to address them.
