After dropping two of three last weekend against Tennessee Tech it is important that Eastern Kentucky wins the series this weekend against Southeast Missouri State, who is tied for the OVC lead after sweeping Belmont in Nashville last weekend. It was a nice breezy day for baseball and The Turk is the best place to be when it is windy.
It took no time for SEMO to take an early 2-0 lead after Gibson scored Blum on a single and Matt Tellor scored Hewitt on another single.
Eastern Kentucky would respond back in the first with a Sean Hagan solo home run to cut the SEMO lead to 2-1.
In the second inning SEMO would put on Bryan Soloman and Doug Teegarden and after a wild pitch they would be standing at second and third with two outs and down one run. Kenny Hostrander would then hit a pop up where four SEMO players all gathered around but no one called it and it would fall right in the middle scoring Soloman and Teegarden to make it 3-2 EKU, Kenny Hostrander would be thrown out trying to get to second.
SEMO would get those runs back in the third though when Jason Blum would score on a grounder and Cole Bieser scored on a sac fly by Derek Gibson to make it 4-3 SEMO.
Again Eastern Kentucky would respond back with another solo shot home run this time by Kyle Nowlin to tie it up at 4 all.
SEMO would have a big 4th inning when Evans doubles down the left field line scoring Branden Boggetto and Mitchell. An EKU error would put Redhawks on the corners when Cole Bieser hits a triple scoring Evans and Jason Blum. Cole Bieser would then score on a Gibson single to make it 9-4 SEMO.
Eastern Kentucky would fight right back though and chip into the 5 run SEMO lead in their half of the 4th. Ben Fisher would hit a double with one out in the 4th then score on a double by Bryan Soloman. Bryan Soloman would then score on a fly out by Kenny Hostrander. The 4th inning would end SEMO up 9-6
EKU would continue their rally in the 6th inning when once again Sean Hagan hits a solo homer to make it 9-7.
Derek Gibson would put an end to the Eastern Kentucky run wit a two run single ib the top of the 6th to make it 11-7 SEMO.
Sean Hagan would stat a new rally in the bottom of the 6th with a single scoring Kenny Hostander.
SEMO would again load the bases with no outs and make EKU pay for it. This time Matt Tellor singles and reaches third on an error all while scoring three Redhawks to raise the lead to 14-8. Matt Tellor would score on a wild pitch to make it 15-8.
