For the fourth consecutive year, UT Martin will be representing the OVC in the NCAA Tournament. Unlike the past three years when the Skyhawks were given 15 and 16 seeds, the committee raised the UTM to the 13-seed line and will play North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
While the Skyhawks have yet to win a NCAA game in their program history, this year could be their best chance with senior guards Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler leading the offense like usual. While that hasn’t changed, the emergence of a full court defense and freshman forward Ashia Jones in the paint has the Skyhawks looking for the OVC’s sixth NCAA victory (3 from TTU, 2 from Middle Tennessee).
Standing in the Skyhawks path will be 4-seed North Carolina who are 24-9 on the year and were 10-6 in the ACC, finishing fifth. UTM will be playing at the Tar Heels on their home floor night at 2pm Central on ESPN.
