UT Martin will name their next men’s basketball coach at a press conference this Thursday. According to multiple media reports, UNLV associate head coach Heath Schroyer is expected to take over the position.

New Athletic Director Julio Freire, who is making the hire, came to Martin from UNLV.

Schroyer, 41, has head head coaching stints at Wyoming and Portland State, but spent the last three seasons on the staff of the Running Rebels. Before his two head-coaching jobs, Schroyer served as Fresno State’s associate head coach for two seasons, and an assistant at Wyoming, BYU, and Fresno City College.

Schroyer is considered a defensive-minded coach, and notably turned around Wyoming terrible APR score he inherited, raising it by 164-points. When Schroyer was hired at Portland State in 2002, he became the second-youngest Division I head men’s basketball coach in the country. (At age 30)

We’ll be there Thursday for the official announcement.
