With under a month to go teams will start looking to position themselves in the OVC Tournament. The top six teams will compete in the playoffs for a bid into the NCAA tournament.
With Eastern Kentucky (20-22, 9-10 OVC) trying to stay in the top six for the OVC tournament every series becomes important. Austin Peay (17-25, 9-10 OVC) is in contention themselves sitting in ninth just a game out of sixth coming into today.
Winner of this series would position themselves nicely for the OVC tournament. Austin Peay took the first step in taking the series on their field with a 6-5 win.
Eastern Kentucky would start the scoring off in the second inning when TJ Alas would hit a two run RBI single into right field. Next batter, Bryan Soloman would add one more with his infield single to make it 3-0 in favor of EKU.
TJ Alas would drive in another run in the third inning giving the Colonels a 4-0 lead.
Tanner Perkins would be lights out on the mound striking out seven Austin Peay batters through six innings.
The seventh inning Austin Peay would finally start their rally. Grffiin Ganick would hit a sacrifice fly into right field to put the Governors on the board. Ridge Smith would then double to make it 4-2. P.J. Torres would reach on an error allowing Smith to score. Logan Gary would then tie it up with a RBI single into left field.
Eastern Kentucky would go ahead in the ninth with a Sean Hagan single into right field giving EKU a late 5-4 lead.
Austin Peay would rally right back in their half of the ninth. Logan Gary would tie it up with a RBI single and Cayce Bredlau would draw a bases loaded game winning walk to give the Govs game one.
EKU and APSU will face off in game two tomorrow at 3 p.m.
