Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee-Martin combined for 31 runs on 38 hits in a offensive explosion on Saturday evening. Eastern Kentucky (17-18, 7-7 OVC) would get the best of the Skyhawks (3-29, 2-15 OVC) as they won 18-13.
Bryan Soloman would hit two home runs as he lead the way for Eastern Kentucky. With the win Eastern Kentucky would clinch their second OVC series victory.
A pair of RBI doubles by Sean Hagan and Bryan Soloman staked the visitors to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Eight batters came to the plate in the first inning.
Kyle Nowlin would hit a RBI single in the second scoring Luke Wurzelbacher. Bryan Soloman would then hit his first home run of the night to increase the score to 6-0.
Kyle Nowlin would score the first run of the third inning on a error by Tennessee-Martin. Taylor Blair would then hit a RBI single, scoring Sean Hagan, to make it 8-0 in favor of EKU. A Kenny Hostrander single would score Bryan Soloman to make it 9-0. TJ Alas would continue the scoring in the third with a RBI single. A Luke Wurzelbacher double would add two runs to finish the third inning scoring to give the Colonels a 12-0 lead.
Soloman hit his second home run of the game in the fourth inning give Eastern Kentucky a 13-0 lead.
Tennessee-Martin would finally score their first runs of the game when Chase Young hit a two run single scoring Nick Molina and Andrew Massey to pull the score to 13-2.
The sixth inning would be the only inning that neither team would score at least a run.
TJ Alas hit his first homer of the season in the seventh, a solo shot over the wall in right field to make it 14-2. It would be 16-2 after the seventh inning.
Tennessee-Martin would start a furious comeback in the seventh inning. Mikey Nantze would add the first run with a RBI single. Chase Young would add another run to make it 16-4. EKU would walk in the third run of the inning. Issac Carrel would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 16-6. A Fletcher Johnson single would bring in the final runs of the inning for the Skyhawks cutting the score to 16-8.
Tennessee-Martin would score three runs in the eighth off hits from Taylor Douglas and Issac Carrel. Kenny King would add a sacrifice fly to make it 16-11.
The two teams would each score two runs in the ninth inning to make it a 18-13 final score.
Eastern Kentucky and UT Martin will conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
