Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky met again on the baseball diamond Wednesday afternoon. The game was held at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Florence, KY, which is the home of the Florence Freedom.
EKU was looking to avoid a season sweep of Northern Kentucky.
The last time these two teams met Eastern Kentucky scored seven runs in the ninth inning which was capped off by a Kyle Nowlin grand slam to send the game into extras, but would lose the game 13-11 in the 11th inning.
In the first inning, Jordan Procyshen would hot a single into right scoing Zac Asman to give the Norse a 1-0 lead.
Kyle Nowlin would tie it in the third with a RBI single scoring Shea Sullivan.
Kenny Hostrander would give the Colonels their first lead of the day after hitting an RBI single scoring Ben Fisher at 2-1.
Bryan Soloman would continue the scoring for Eastern Kentucky with a three run home run to give EKU a 5-1 lead.
Ryan LeFevers would break the Eastern Kentucky run with a RBI triple to bring the Norse within three runs. Logan Spurlin who would come within inches of hitting a grand slam instead he gets two runs on a double. Then Cody Kuzniczci would hit a sacrifice fly to even the game at 5-5.
Eastern Kentucky would come right back in the ninth with the bases and no out. That’s when Taylor Blair would hit a ball over the head of the NKU shortstop to score Sean Hagan and Doug Teegarden. Ben Fisher would follow that up with a double of his own to drive in Bryan Soloman. Kenny Hostrander would continue the hitting streak with a single scoring Fisher and giving the Colonels a 9-5 lead.
Barrett Arnold would score a run off a wild pitch to make it 9-6 but Northern Kentucky would end the game on a double play the next batter.
With the 9-6 win Eastern Kentucky avoids being swept by Northern Kentucky.
