Morehead State (14-15) had four runs and 14 hits tonight as they beat Eastern Kentucky (13-16) 4-3. With the defeat the atmosphere was still electric as Eastern Kentucky hosted their first night game in program history.
Despite Morehead State dominating the game in hits, 14-4, the EKU defense would keep the game within reach.
Eastern Kentucky would take the first lead of the game in the third inning when Doug Teegarden singled up the middle scoring Kyle Nowlin for an 1-0 Colonels lead.
Bobby Burns of Morehead State would hit a solo home run to tie it in the top of the fourth inning. Kane Sweeney would hit another solo home run in the fifth inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
A Morehead State error on a failed pick off play at third base scored Taylor Blair to tie it up 2-2.
Ryan Kent flied out to left field scoring Jeff Birkofer to give Morehead State a 3-2 lead. Chris Robinson would hit a triple in the seventh inning scoring Brandon Rawe giving MSU a 4-2 lead.
Eastern Kentucky would attempt a late game rally in the eighth when Kyle Nowlin scored on a fielder’s choice by Bryan Soloman that would be as close as EKU would get at 4-3.
EKU and Morehead State will face off again tomorrow at 6 p.m.
