For the third-straight year 12 Ohio Valley Conference players were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Of those 12 selections five came in the first 10 rounds, setting a new record for most OVC players picked in the first 10 rounds (eclipsing the old mark of three set several times).
Overall six of the 11 OVC baseball-playing institutions had at least one player selected and Tennessee Tech led the way with five individuals drafted.
The 12 selections were once again just one off the record of 13 selections in 2010. Overall the OVC has had 58 players selected over the past five years.
Tennessee Tech pitcher David Hess was the first player taken, going in the 5th Round to the Baltimore Orioles (No. 151 overall). Three rounds later teammate Daniel Miles went in the 8th Round to the Tampa Bay Rays (No. 247). Belmont pitcher Austin Coley was drafted in the 8th Round by the Pittsburgh Pirates (No. 251) while a third TTU player was drafted in the 9th round as outfielder Brandon Thomasson was selected by Kansas City (No. 273). Southeast Missouri’s Matt Tellor, the OVC Player of the Year, was taken in the 10th Round by Atlanta (No. 313).
The picks were rounded out by Belmont pitcher Greg Brody (11th Round, No. 328 to San Francisco), Eastern Illinois pitcher Matt Borens (11th Round, No. 332 to the New York Yankees), Tennessee Tech pitcher Seth Lucio (12th Round, No. 357 to San Diego), Belmont catcher Jamie Ritchie (13th Round, No. 376 to Houston), UT Martin pitcher Taylor Cox (16th Round, No. 477 to San Diego), Tennessee Tech catcher Jordan Parris (20th Round, No. 593 to Colorado) and Jacksonville State outfielder Griff Gordon (27th Round, No. 812 to the New York Yankees).
