Former Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player Glenn Cosey has signed a contract to play professionally in France. Cosey will play for Evreux in the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB).
The LNB has two divisions, Pro A and Pro B. Evreux is one of 18 teams in Pro B. Last season the team finished tied for fifth with a 25-19 record. Evreux defeated The Portel 2-1 in the first round best of three playoff series. The team fell to eventual champion Bourg-en-Bresse 2-1 in the semifinals.
“I was told by my agent that most rookies don’t play in France their first year, they have to prove themselves first,” Cosey said. “So it’s a great opportunity that I couldn’t pass on.”
The 2014-15 season begins in September. Cosey will report for training in August.
Evreux, located in northern France, has a population of over 50,000 and is about 60 miles northwest of Paris.
Cosey helped the Colonels (24-10) capture the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship and earn the program’s eighth NCAA Tournament bid this past season. The Flint, Michigan native was named to the 2013-14 Lou Henson All-America team, chosen first team All-OVC and first team NABC All-District.
Cosey averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 2013-14. He led the conference in three-pointers made (3.4 per game), was second in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.3), third in free throw shooting (84.1 percent), fourth in scoring, fifth in three-point shooting (42.6 percent) and eighth in assists (4.2 apg).
Cosey earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management in May.
