Justin Argenal has been hired as an assistant coach for the Southeast Missouri men’s basketball program. Argenal will oversee recruiting among other duties.
“We are especially pleased to welcome Justin Argenal to our coaching staff and basketball program,” said Southeast head coach Dickey Nutt. “Justin comes from very good programs which include Ole Miss, Louisiana Tech and The Citadel. We are looking forward to Justin making an impact in all areas such as recruiting, on-court coaching and other duties.”
Argenal spent the 2013-14 season at The Citadel where he was an assistant coach under Chuck Driesell. Prior to that, Argenal worked two seasons as director of basketball operations at Louisiana Tech.
Argenal started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Mississippi. In his role at Ole Miss, he focused on academic success of student-athletes and implementation of individual workouts for offseason player development. Argenal was an instrumental part of the Rebels 2009-10 NIT Final Four staff.
After that, Argenal began his first stint at The Citadel in 2010-11, serving as the Bulldogs director of basketball operations.
A native of Lafayette, California, Argenal was a four-year team captain at California State University-Chico, and is the school’s all-time leader in steals and assists. He earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from CSU-Chico in 2009. Argenal completed his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University (Irvine) in 2010.
Argenal’s brother, Gus, is the head men’s basketball coach at Cal State East Bay, an NCAA Division II school located in Hayward, California.
