Former University of Cincinnati quarterback Bennie Coney is leaving the FBS ranks, and has joined Eastern Kentucky. Coney tweeted out the news himself, saying “Fresh start, new me, new beginnings, new blessings !!! **EKU**”
Coney played limited action at UC last season, sitting behind quarterback Brandon Kay. With Jared McClain returning for the Colonels next season, he’s far from a lock to start at EKU.
The UC QB was a three-star prospect out of high school in 2012, but couldn’t rise in the depth chart under head coach Tommy Tuberville. With the addition of former Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Keil to the Bearcats roster, it was becoming more unlikely that the sophomore would see the field this season.
Coney will be immediately eligible for the FCS Colonels.
