Jacksonville State running back Troymaine Pope was involved in a Sunday morning shooting. The extent to which he was involved, and whether he was injured in the shooting is currently unknown.
According to the Anniston Star, Jacksonville State senior associate athletics director Greg Seitz confirmed that Pope was present at the time of the shooting, but provided no other details, citing federal privacy laws.
“We’re aware that Troymaine was involved in this, and we’re doing an internal investigation on that end,” Seitz told the paper, “to make sure we have all the facts.”
There is reason to believe that Pope may have been shot: Posts to his Facebook page mention the shooting, surgery and wish him a speedy recovery. (We have removed the names from the posts below)
We’ll provide more details on the shooting, and Pope’s condition, as it becomes available.
