Reading school’s attempt to spin their schedules is often entertaining. SEMO, for instance, touts games against three SEC schools. If this were football, that would be impressive on face. In basketball, it depends on who you face.

They mostly face the better half of the conference. And it makes for a pretty solid overall slate.

Thoughts

I was somewhat surprised when figuring the numbers for the section above that this schedule aligns so closely with Austin Peay’s slate, because if you just showed me the two, I’d tell you SEMO’s was vastly superior on face. The home slate, which still featuring two non-Division I opponents, also features two games with Southern Illinois and Missouri State, which are great regional rivalries. The road / weirdly neutral slate, (why are you playing in Little Rock, again?) features three top-100 RPI teams from a year ago, all from the SEC, but also has a trip to Central Arkansas, which…isn’t. There isn’t a really close road game, but all-in-all, I like this schedule, and should give SEMO fans a good show before OVC play begins in January.

On another note — All six teams from the East at once to kick off conference play? Really, OVC?

Road Trip to make

I’m not sure there is a ‘must-go’ trip on the schedule. If you’re taking a road trip for the sake of taking a road trip, I’d head to Mizzou personally. Normally, I’d say LA, as I love the city, but the games aren’t wholly compelling, if I’m being honest.

If seeing the Redhawks win is of utmost importance, Central Arkansas is probably your best bet.

Don’t waste your money…

When Southeast Missouri host Southeastern Louisiana in December. There’s nothing wrong with the game — but save your cash for the next two against Southern Illinois and Missouri State.
