UC Davis? A home-and-home with…UC Davis? That’s still in California, right? *checks* What the hell?!?

–Me, three seconds after seeing Eastern Illinois schedule,
…before remembering this is the same school that had a home-home with Houston Baptist.

Thoughts

I was surprised how tough this schedule is. Over the past few years, EIU’s non-conference slates have been filled with schools I’ve never heard of, and that’s not a problem here. Missouri State, Cincinnati, Creighton, Indiana State — these are all great games. Even bringing in Northern Illinois isn’t a bad game. It’s tough, and should more than prepare Eastern Illinois for conference play.

The issue, is, all those good games will have to be caught on TV or radio. Outside of the NIU game in December, the home slate is pretty lackluster. Just another example of how hard it is to get good teams to come to your arena when you’re a mid-major.

Road Trip to make

I didn’t realize until I looked on a map just how close Indiana State is to Charleston. Seriously, that’s just about an hour’s drive. That’s easy. Nothing else is less than three hours away.

Don’t waste your money…

While I could continue pondering why UC Davis, the February non-conference game against non-Division I Baker University is also baffling. Why play this game so late in the year? If you’re in the hunt for an OVC Tournament spot, is anyone going to care that some school from Kansas they’ve never heard of and will never heard from again is coming to the Lantz? I get why the game has to be scheduled — to get another home game, but February? Okay…sure…
