In my preview to Murray State’s schedule, I said there are generally two types of schedules: Ones that prepares your team for a conference run, and schedules made for fans. Murray’s was a mix of both. Morehead’s is much more of the first — but uneven. There are a lot of great opponents, but far too many snoozers.

Thoughts

This is a love/hate schedule. Games against Ohio State, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, at Marshall and Green Bay? Love. The rest of the slate, especially the home games? Hate. In fact, I’m hard pressed to find any positives in Morehead’s home slate. Only two home games in November — both against non Division I opponents.

So if you’re a fan, there’s not a lot to get excited about until January — unless you can catch the road games on TV.

Road Trip to make

To Cincinnati is sexy — a power conference team just up the road, but Marshall isn’t much farther away, and a good chance to see Morehead State matchup against an opponent they can beat on the road. I’d take the latter for the entertainment value, but if you’ve never seen the Bearcats in person, head north in November.

Don’t waste your money…

In November. Other than the Cincinnati and Marshall games, I’m hard pressed to pick another worth getting out of your house — either because they’re a plane ride away, or because they’re snoozers.

Marshall is 1 hour down I-64 and Cincinnati is a two hour drive. The home schedule would have been better, but Southern Miss either bought out of their trip to Morehead or pushed the game back a year. This schedule will prepare us come conference play and our fans are happy with it, but yeah, we wish we had a little better home slate. Next year's home schedule should be nice though.
