With most of the money games out of the way, it is time to take a look at how the teams in the OVC stack up to the rest of the country in all of Division I football. To do this, we will use the Sagarin ratings along with a handful of other rankings. Don’t forget, our own Power Rankings will be released later this week.
Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the conference. After Saturday’s loss to Southern Illinois, EIU has some serious work to do to move back up.
- Sagarin Ratings ranking FBS and FCS teams together. There are many FBS teams, including Miami of Ohio, who rank lower than OVC teams.
- The Sports Network Poll is the equivalent of the FBS AP poll and is the media’s poll. If you follow me on Twitter, you will notice I do not put much value in their rankings because of ignorance and incorrect reporting. This is particularly true in regards to the OVC.
- If you don’t know what the Coaches’ Poll is you really are a dummy.
- Sagarin’s conference ratings rate FBS and FCS conferences. Conferences with divisions are treated as separate conferences (i.e. the SWAC). The ratings give the most weight to the middle of the pack teams in a conference and progressively less weight to the top and bottom teams to avoid statistical anomalies.
