Pete Mathews Coliseum is already one of the smallest arena’s in the OVC. It’s actually getting even smaller — but a bit nicer. On Tuesday, the Jacksonville State board of trusteed approved a $1.3 million renovation to Pete Mathews Coliseum, according to the Anniston Star. The newspaper reports that the upgrade will provide new floors, new seating, and as a result, reduce the capacity from 4,200 to 3,500.

Jacksonville State’s SGA president, Brett Johnson, posted a rendering of the new arena

The student sections will remain bleachers, but the seats on the sides of the court will become seatback.

The work is expected to start in the summer and be complete by the start of the 2015-16 school year.
