Our yearly breakdown of OVC schedules has reached it’s end, as Tennessee Tech finally officially released their schedule this week, and it’s my be the oddest of the bunch. Not bad, just…odd.
|Last Season RPI||Travel Distance (mi)|
|26||@ Southeastern Louisiana||319||593|
|15||@ North Florida||193||569|
|22||@ Missouri-Kansas City||254||632|

|17||@ Southeast Missouri|

|14||@ Jacksonville State|
|16||@ East Tennessee State||208||207|
|26||@ Morehead State|
|28||@ Eastern Kentucky|
Average Non-Conference RPI: 208.9
Average Home Non-Conference RPI: 240.8
Average Non-Conference Road Travel Distance: 561.3 miles*
Non-Division I opponents: 2
*The Louisiana road swing were counted as one trip — because I can’t imagine someone would go for one, and not the other.
Is it the playoffs? TTU will play Southeastern Louisiana twice in three days in November, one in Cookeville, another in Louisiana. That second game will be a little weird. The Golden Eagles are also keeping the bracketbusters spirit alive, with a late non-conference game at East Tennessee State. Here’s my question though: why couldn’t TTU get a home-home deal with them, or Chattanooga, instead of SELA and North Florida? The longest road trip of the year, to USC, doesn’t have a second game. It’s a very different schedule.
But the games themselves are pretty solid. Alabama and Tennessee are relatively close road games against Power-5 competition. There are four non-conference games (five if you include non-Division I) against teams from the Volunteer State.
Another oddity — TTU is playing solo home games at 6 p.m. this year, not 7.
Road Trip to make
If you can stand all the orange (and living in Tennessee, I’m going to guess the answer is ‘yes’) you’ve got to head to Knoxville. It’s a fun environment. If orange isn’t your color, make the trip to Alabama.
Don’t waste your money…
Heading to Louisiana? You will have literally just seen the first opponent. Unless that’s some epic triple-overtime game, it’s probably not going to be as exciting as the first
