Tennessee Tech head basketball coach Steve Payne won’t be leaving Cookeville any time soon. The school has announced they’ve extended Payne’s contract through the 2019 season.
Payne has been with the program since 2002, serving nine years as an assistant under Mike Sutton before taking over the helm of the program. During his three years as head coach, TTU has gone 48-47, and 23-25 in conference play.
“I am excited to be able to continue what we’ve started, and excited about the direction our program is headed,” Payne said. “I’m grateful that the leadership of our university and our athletic department feels the same way I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of what we can do in Athletics at Tennessee Tech, and within our men’s basketball program. I appreciate the loyalty and the faith that they’ve placed in me.”
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 17-16 season, but lost two of their top three scorers last year to graduation.
No details about pay were immediately available.
