SIUE opens the season hosting NAIA Harris-Stowe Friday. Here’s a look at some of the important numbers:

The Good

45.0%SIUE hit 9-20 three-pointers in their exhibition win over Greenville. The defenses will get stronger as the year goes on, but it’s a good start for SIUE’s guards.

The Bad

319thThe Cougars ranked 319th our of 347 teams last season in defensive efficiency. They held Greenville to 32.8% shooting, and will likely hold Harris-Stowe to small numbers as well, but with most of the same guys returning, this is an area that will need improvement if SIUE is make a deeper run this season.

0Every single SIUE player that took a free-throw, missed at least one in the Cougars exhibition loss. Even more interesting — no one took more than five.

The !?*#%!$@

-8SIUE was outrebounded in their exhibition game against non-Division I Greenville, 43-35. Most troubling, Greenville pulled down 18 offensive rebounds off 41 misses, an oREB% of 43.9%. Harris-Stowe is also a lower-division team, which gives the Cougars a chance to right the ship before bigger and stronger teams come calling.

500Friday is National Pickle Day…or something. So, SIUE is giving out dill pickles to the first 500 people through the doors. This isn’t a joke. Yeah, I’m sure a group of college kids is not going to do anything inappropriate with their pickles on a stick. Nothing funny about stiff pickles. At all.
