Jacksonville State opens the season at Marshall Friday. Here’ s a look at some of the important numbers:
20One of the surprises of Jacksonville State’s exhibition schedule was Jeremy Watson‘s rebounding off the bench. He pulled down 10 offensive and 10 defensive rebounds over the Gamecocks two games. He came to the Gamecocks through the JUCO ranks, but was redshirted last year. If he can put up similar numbers against Division I competition, don’t be surprised if he earns a starting spot soon.
16.0Jacksonville State averaged 16 turnovers in the first two exhibition games. A disproportionate number (6) of those came from JUCO transfer Dontay Jackson in the opener against William Carey, but against lower competition, that number is just far too high.
39.2%Jacksonville State has not shot the ball well as of hit, hitting less than 40% through their two exhibition games. We know JSU needs strong defense to win, but that’s not a good number, especially when you realize how much tougher the competition gets
11Jacksonville State has lost their last eleven straight road openers. Their last time winning their first road game of the year? December 12th, 2002, when Jacksonville State won at Alcorn State. That season, their first road game didn’t come until their sixth game of the year, opening up the season with a tournament, followed by a pair of home games.
