Morehead State opens the season at UNLV Friday. Here’s a look at some of the important numbers:
78.5%UNLV had only one senior last year. You wouldn’t know it look at this year’s roster. More than three-fourth’s of the Rebels scoring production from a year ago is gone. Deville Smith, as you know, went to UT Martin. Bryce Dejean-Jones transferred. Khem Birch is playing in Canada. Roscoe Smith left for the NBA. It’s a mostly new squad.
19After Chad Posthumus graduated, I figured there wouldn’t be another guy to fill his shoes as far as gaudy rebounding numbers went. Well, enter former UNLV transfer (does anyone stay there?) Karam Mashour. The forward pulled down 19 rebounds in the Eagles exhibition with over St. Catherine. Interestingly, though, Morehead State only outrebounded St. Catherine by six.
64Sure, it was an exhibition, but UNLV had 64 rebounds in the win over Florida National. I didn’t even know that was possible. The semi-interesting part: they allowed 43. In case you didn’t know — they like to run more than even Morehead State.
1,996The Eagles are traveling nearly 2,000 miles to Las Vegas — for one game. There’s no second game on this road trip. It’s a lot of traveling for not a lot of payoff. And they’re back home just three days later to host Cincinnati Christian.
