Morehead State kicks off a busy weekend against Louisiana Tech. A look at the matchup by the numbers
10.7One of Sean Woods‘ biggest issues with his teams at Morehead State? Turnovers. This year, though, things are looking much better. They’re averaging just over 10 turnovers a game, and their turnover rate is the best in the OVC on the young season. Playing the type of game they do, mistakes are going to happen. They’re getting them under control, and that should be scary for the OVC.
76.5%Continuing with the Morehead State trends, the Eagles usually don’t struggle to get to the free-throw line themselves, and they’re hitting better than three of four on the year. It’s good enough to be 35th in the nation so far, and third in the OVC.
26.3It’s also been a problem for two years under Woods, and it’s looking like it’s about to stretch into a third: Morehead State is committing more than 26 fouls a game. In the past two seasons, they’ve finished the year with the most fouls per game, and the second most — and both of those seasons the number was below 25.
36.2%Morehead State’s offense has struggled. The Eagles are just shooting 36.2% from the field, and 33.9% from three-point range. They’re averaging just 60 points per game against Division I competition, and while scoring is down across college basketball right now, (no clue why) that’s still a low number.
80.7The Eagles haven’t run this year. Louisiana Tech has. The Bulldogs are averaging more than 80 possessions a game, 11 more than the usually up-temp Eagles. They’ll want Morehead State to run
