Murray State looks to bounce back from a tough loss as they make the short trip to Middle Tennessee State. A look at the matchup by the numbers:
74.1%The Racers were 10th in the OVC in free-throw shooting last year, but are already off to a better start after hitting 20-27 from the charity stripe against Houston. Only four players got to the line, but all hit at least 50% of their attempts. You couldn’t say that a lot last season.
18.0%Middle Tennessee State like to take threes, but they struggled in their season opener against lower division Ohio Valley, (That’s the school’s name — seriously) hitting just 3-16 from behind the arc. The Blue Raiders have struggled offensively in both games, so they could be looking to have a breakout performance against the Racers
11Jonathan Fairell’s hip didn’t seem to be too big an issue, but another problem popped back up: fouls! Fairell fouled out after 11 minutes on the floor. The Racers are already thin, as they await news on Tyler Rambo’s eligibility, so he’s got to be able to stay on the floor.
39.0%Nearly four of every 10 shots for Murray State were from behind the three-point arc in the Racers loss to Houston. The biggest issue with taking that many threes: only making 6 of 25.
77-74That’s not just the final score of the Houston game, it was the final score of Murray State’s season opener last year, a loss at Valparaiso. If the score of this game is 97-69 (the Racers score in their second game last year, against Brescia) I’m locking myself in my nuclear bunker now.
2006-07The Racers haven’t started a season 0-2 since the 2006-07 season, at 16-14 season. That year started with the Shamrock Invivational out West, where the Racers dropped three straight.
