Tempo Tracker (Possessions)
Eastern Illinois offense
UC Davis offense
Eastern Illinois hit 10 three’s, on their way to their highest scoring output against a Division I opponent this season, but UC Davis’ offense was even better in a ten-point win on the West Coast.
Reggie Smith returns from knee injury strong
Smith played just three minutes in the Panthers win against Ball State, after suffering what appeared to be a knee-injury. The guard came off the bench for the Panthers tonight, and returned with a strong offensive performance, scoring a team-high 16 points thanks in part to 3-6 shooting from behind the arc. In all, the Panthers hit 10-24 (41.7%) from three-point range on the night, but shot just 42.4% overall from the field.
The two halves of Trae Anderson
The JUCO transfer was the Panthers leading scorer on the season heading into this game, and put up a solid first half, scoring 10 points in just nine minutes of action on 4-5 shooting from the floor. Anderson saw even fewer second-half minutes, though, as he continued to rack up fouls. The guard finished with 12 points on the night.
UC Davis hot from everywhere
If you would have told me entering the night that EIU would put up 70 points, and lose by double-digits, I would have laughed. And yet, that’s exactly what they did. UC Davis hit 58% from the floor, 7-14 (50%) from three-point range, and 23-28 (82.1%) from the free-throw line in the win. The Panthers, who shot much worse (42.4% overall) were able to stay in the game thanks to doubling up UC Davis on the offensive glass (12-6) and winning the turnover battle. (16-11)
The Olivier Bench Experience Ends
Chris Olivier returned to the starting lineup, and does so with a strong 12 point, 10 rebound performance. Olivier did play just 29 minutes, though, due in part to foul trouble.
