By choosing to play Pick ‘Em — you automatically agree to the rules below.
You’ll be picking games against the spread provided. That spread will be provided by 10 a.m. EST the day of the games (although I will make every effort to have those spreads posted the night before) You pick which team will win against that spread. A pick for a game must be in by the tip-off of that game. Picks can be made one of two ways:
1) In the comment section of that post on ovcball.net
2) By sending the picks to @ovcball or @ovcpickem on twitter, either in a post or a DM.
All comments on the site, as well as tweets are time stamped. That stamp will determine whether a pick was made in time for a game. If you miss an early tip you can pick the remaining games.
PICK ‘EM POSTS, SPREADS
All spreads will be posted in a post on ovcball.net, and a link provided to twitter through both @ovcball and @ovcpickem upon update. Raw spreads will also be posted through tweets @ovcpickem. Each week of the contest will have it’s own post — and spreads and scoring will be updated in that same post throughout that week. New weeks begin on Monday. All comments will be removed from the site for the next day’s picks — but will remain saved in case of a challenge or error notification.
Spreads will generally be taken from ESPN the evening before the game. The spread posted on the site may differ from the spread you see online, due to a change in the live lines, or simply the use of a different site. Only the spread posted on this site or the official twitter account counts towards our Pick ‘Em contest.
This season, there will not be spreads for games against teams outside NCAA Division I.
Ex/ Team A vs Team B (-3)
In the example, Team B is favored by three points. So you would subtract three points from their final score. So if Team B won the game 77-75, team A would actually win against the spread.
DOUBLE DOWN PICK
Every day, you can choose to double down on a single game. By placing a (DD) after one pick — no more than one per day – that game is worth double. That means two wins if you’re right — or two losses if you’re wrong. You do not have to pick a double down if you choose.
No double down picks will be allowed during the OVC Tournament.
We’ve used various scoring systems throughout the year, and after careful consideration, we will carry over last year’s win-loss scoring system. Every correct pick counts as win. Every incorrect pick counts as a loss. (For Double Down picks, see section above) If a pick is not made, or is made late, it will neither count as a win or loss. Also — any pushes, which occur when calculating the spread leads to a tie, counts as neither a win or loss.
The season will be split into three parts:
Fall season (All games before January 1st)
Winter season (All regular season games between January 1st and the OVC Tournament)
The OVC Tournament, and all post-season tournaments.
Unlike past years — there will be no qualification structure for the OVC Tournament. All players will be allowed to take part.
The winner of each season will be determined by the highest winning percentage. The method for breaking ties depends on the season.
Fall/Winter Seasons: In case of a tie — the winner will be whoever has the most wins for that given season. If a tie can still not be broken — the winner will be determined by the best record on the final day of the season. Record will be compared every day backwards from the end of the season until a winner can be declared.
Tournament Season: In case of a tie — the winner will be whoever has the most wins for the tournament. All players will also pick a “total score” of the OVC championship game, as a secondary tiebreaker.
Standings will be split into two sections: “Eligible” and “Ineligible.” A player will be counted as eligible as long as their combined win-loss total adds up to 50-percent of the maximum win-loss total of any player. Only “eligible” players can win prizes in any given season. This is to prevent someone from going 1-0, and then not picking again the rest of the season.
While I (@ovcball) will take part in Pick ‘Em, I will always be Standings Ineligible.
SCORING CHALLENGES, ERRORS
All scoring will be done by hand, and will be tracked through a spreadsheet. Though I will do my best to prevent them, errors may happen. As part of the daily Pick ‘Em lines, I will make every effort to update scoring from the day before. At no point will more than three game days pass without a scoring update. If you believe I have made an error — contact me through any of the means listed above for making picks. I will double check not only your score for that day — but everyone who entered that day as well.
Any challenge to the rules can also be made through the same lines of communication. All decisions on challenges or errors are final.
While I don’t anticipate rule changes, it is impossible that I can forsee every potential issue that may arise. All efforts will be made to ensure a fair competition, but I can not guarantee that the above rules will not be changed. All rule changes will be clearly communicated at the top of a Pick ‘Em post if such a change is necessary. All rule changes are not subject to challenge.
This game may be discontinued at any time.
