Is this head coach Dave Loos’ final season? Oh wait, that’s not what this post is about. My bad…

Jokes aside, there’s a lot to like for Governors’ fans this year.

AP schedule

Good mid-major opponents? Check. Great road venues? Check. How do the numbers stack up? Glad you asked:

Average Non-Conference RPI (using 2015-16 RPI numbers): 151.0
Last Year —  194.9

Top-100 RPI Opponents: at Dayton (25), home-and-home with IPFW (74), vs Evansville (92), at Indiana (19)
Last Year —  3

Bottom-100 RPI opponents (252-351): vs Northern Kentucky (296), vs Delaware (275), vs Lipscomb (270)

Non-Division I opponents: 2

Early Benchmark — November 19th at Miami (OH):  Miami (OH) is usually a solid, if unspectacular, team in a tough mid-major conference. Getting a win on their home turf would be a good sign for the Governors very early in the year. And former Tennessee State head coach John Cooper is still the head of the Redhawks. That really has nothing to do with this, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

Best road trip — November 18th – 20th at the Redhawk InvitationalAll three of these games are winnable. All three games are against programs you’ve (hopefully) heard of. And you can dress up as a bird and play in a giant nest in Oxford. No seriously, this is one of Oxford’s selling points…

Seriously though, take a few days off. It’s three good games in three days.

Other Notes: Four of the Governors first five conference games are on the road, followed by five of their next six, (or seven of their next nine if you look a little farther) at home.

there’s a lot to like for Governors’ fans this year.
