Well, this is a schedule. Is it a good schedule? Well — it could help UT Martin rack up a lot of wins, and a lot of home wins at that. In fact — it’s the most home-friendly schedule we’ve ranked so far.

UT Martin 2016-17 schedule

Count ’em — 7 home games for the Skyhawks, and every single one of them I would rank as ‘winnable.’ Here’s the numbers:

Average Non-Conference RPI (using 2015-16 RPI numbers):  218.0
Last Year —  243.3

Top-100 RPI Opponents: at Ole Miss, (98) at Kentucky (10)
Last Year —  1

Bottom-100 RPI opponents (252-351): vs UT Rio Grande Valley, (335) vs Cleveland State, (277) vs Florida Atlantic, (301) at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, (310) vs Arkansas State, (284) vs Bethune-Cookman, (291) at UMKC (288)

Non-Division I opponents: 2

Early Benchmark — The “bluegrass classic” kicks off far away from the Bluegrass — it brings the Skyhawks to Buffalo to play Canisius. The Golden Griffins were a sub-500 team in the MAAC last season, but it’s a game a far away from home for UTM. This is the kind of team that represents the middle of the OVC fairly well, and should be a solid test for the Skyhawks.

Best road trip — While I’ll be making the trip to Canisius, (because it’s literally just down the road from where I live) I’d say the much shorter trip to SIU makes for a better road trip for Skyhawks fans. It’s about a two-hour drive up the road to a fun, usually quite loud SIU Arena, and a great way to spend a Thursday night just before Christmas.

Other Notes: UTM’s seven games against teams in the bottom 100 of the RPI last year are the most of any team in the conference so far — but their 7 home games also leads the conference. It’s a huge improvement over last year, where the Skyhawks played nine of their first 11 on the road. UTM’s “bluegrass classic” road swing is quite brutal: Buffalo to Pittsburgh to Lexington with games every other day. It adds up to 1,400 miles over five or six days, depending how early they arrive in Buffalo.

Count ’em — 7 home games for the Skyhawks, and every single one of them I would rank as ‘winnable.’

I'm happy to see a more friendly non-conference schedule this year.It still has road games against Ole Miss,Kentucky,Canisius and Duquesne on it.UTM plays Arkansas St. every year and it's UTM's turn to host plus home and home matchups with UTRGV and FAU started on the road last year.I predict the Skyhawks won't be 2-10 like they were last year.Anthony Stewart says that he made a concerted effort to get more home games this year which was a reason to play in the Bluegrass Classic to get the Cleveland St. game.

2-7 actually after I've looked back on last year's schedule. That's what happens when you have a faulty memory.
