Where we started, and why we’re here
As so many great stories start…in January 2011, I found myself bored one day. I had thought about making a website to cover Ohio Valley basketball before, but never got it off the ground. That day, a headline happened to flash across my computer that ESPN and the OVC renewed their deal for two more seasons. So, I wrote 75 whole words about it. I made some graphics, signed up for this thing called a ‘blog,’ and joined this spunky upstart social media site called Twitter.
I didn’t think it’d last a month. Much less for this long.
Over time, this site has evolved in ways I never could imagine. We started heavily as a news-focused site, at one point had several writers and covered multiple sports, and have gone through no fewer than six different website designs.
We’re back to just one writer — and the sport we started with, but we’re far from just scores and recaps.
My motto is this: cover Ohio Valley Conference basketball in a way no one else is. That means more than writing who hit what shot, and who led the game in rebounds. Odds are — if you’re reading this site, you were at the game, and know what happened.
So, what will you see here? Our game recaps provide the most in-depth statistics you’ll find anywhere, and look what each game means for teams in the long run. Our columns will shine a light, both positive and negative, on teams, players, coaches, and even the league. Our Power Rankings will probably infuriate you, and our twitter account…well, it’s freakin’ awesome, and I dare you to say otherwise. (Sporting News named it one of the top-140 twitter accounts to follow in college basketball, and we’re regularly picked as the OVC twitter account to follow by College Basketball Talk)
A few other OVC basketball sites have popped up since I started this site, and some are better than others. But this is the original, and still the only site covering the sport and your teams like we do.
If you like what we do, drop us a line below. If you don’t, drop us a line too, as I’m always working to improve.
Thanks so much for reading. And thanks for being a fan of the OVC.
About The Author
My name is Catlin Bogard, and I’m a bit of a dork. Hi, Catlin!
Since before I was in high school, I knew I wanted to be involved in television. I’ve spent the whole of my professional career in television news, currently working as an Executive News Producer in Buffalo, New York. The map-savvy among you probably realize that’s no where near OVC country. So, why the OVC?
I was raised in Murray, Kentucky, attended Murray State University, and was a founding member of the short-lived “Andy Hornig fan club.” I do my best to keep my fandom out of my coverage, but when I eventually leave this site, I’ll always bleed blue and gold.
